2:33 p.m. Theft of a cash change machine was reported at a laundry in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue in Dolores. Security footage could not be accessed. At 4:23 p.m., dispatch received a report of a damaged and discarded cash change machine in the parking area of Chicken Creek Trailhead. The machine was empty and had been opened via a cutting torch. It was identified by the owner. Another deputy had taken a similar report two months before, and the two deputies will work together on possible leads.
Saturday, March 21
11:09 a.m. A laptop and Wi-Fi router were stolen from a church in the 32200 block of U.S. Highway 160. A side door was found unlocked. There were no visible tracks outside the building or evidence of forced entry. A list of people with keys was requested but not received.
Monday, March 23
3:03 p.m. Several deputies investigated an occurrence of domestic violence in the 15800 block of Road 31. A man allegedly struck a woman during an argument and slammed her face into a cup in the console of the vehicle she was seated in. The woman sustained a cut on her upper lip and minor swelling on the right side of her face. A witness was present during the altercation. Statements were taken from the parties involved and photos of relevant text messages were also taken. A warrant was issued for the man.
Tuesday, March 24
2:36 p.m. A missing firearm was reported in the 8600 block of Road 39. The deputy took a description and the serial number of the weapon and submitted it to the NCIC/CCIC databases as stolen.
Wednesday, March 25
2:36 p.m. Two deputies conducted a traffic stop for a defective brake light in the 90 block of Central Avenue in Dolores. One deputys observed a female passenger with a marijuana cigarette in her mouth. Neither she nor the female driver wore seat belts. Both women were asked to exit the vehicle and were then patted down. A vehicle search yielded several open containers of marijuana and meth, along with drug paraphernalia. The items were collected as evidence, and both women were arrested.
Friday, March 27
11:25 a.m. Several mailboxes were damaged in the 26800 block of County Road H and the 8000 block of County Road 27. The owners were contacted, except for at a vacant house. The case is inactive.
Saturday, March 28
12:15 p.m. A deputy investigated a report of electronic harassment in the 9600 block of County Road G. A woman’s ex-boyfriend was sending her multiple harassing text messages. The ex-boyfriend had also contacted the woman’s mother and daughter. The man was contacted and told that if the messages did not stop he would issued a summons. He stated he would stop. The woman was advised to obtain a protection order and change her phone number. At 2:30 p.m., the woman reported the messages were continuing. The deputy drove to the ex-boyfriend’s residence, but the man’s mother said he was too intoxicated to come to the gate. She took him to the Sheriff’s Office the following Monday, and he was served a summons.
3:19 p.m. A deputy responded to a call for backup in the 28200 block of U.S. Highway 160. A man was already in custody. The man had two outstanding arrest warrants, including one felony. The deputy took the man to the Montezuma County Detention Center and served two warrants.
6:05 p.m. A man arrested earlier in the day made claims to jail staff that he had coronavirus and everyone should be quarantined and he should be released. The man’s temperature was found to be normal and he could not reply “yes” to any quarantine questions. The man was issued two new summons.
Wednesday, April 1
12:33 a.m. Someone threw rocks from a vehicle at someone’s motorhome while its occupants slept inside in the 13500 block of Road N. The vehicle was a silver four-door sedan, but the license plate was not seen. The motorhome windshield was shattered, and there was a hole in the right side. A suspicious vehicle with no occupants was observed in the area during patrol. Two people were walking toward the car, but stated they were looking for a dropped phone and did not harass anyone. There were no other suspects.

7:19 a.m. A deputy was dispatched to Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., for a warrant service for a male inmate.

Friday, April 3
11:03 a.m. A woman reported finding a baggie of what appeared to be meth in the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office parking lot. A deputy collected the clear “coin bag,” and a test indicated the presence of meth. It was collected as evidence and labeled for destruction.
9:31 p.m. A deputy conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle going 76 mph in a 65 mph zone. The deputy observed that the driver and passengers appeared nervous. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle. During the search, the deputy found a baggie containing a white, crystalline substance and what appeared to be a meth pipe. A field test indicated the presence of meth. All three people denied the items belonged to them. The items were seized and the occupants were released. The evidence was logged and submitted for destruction.
