Saturday, Nov. 4
4:02 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of driving while his abilities were impaired after he was pulled over for weaving.
Sunday, Nov. 5
3:23 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a possibly suicidal person driving through Cortez from Durango. A man fitting the description of the report was pulled over in the 41000 block of U.S. Highway 160, and he reportedly told responding deputies that he was off his medication and needed help. They transported him to Southwest Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Thursday, Nov. 9
8:21 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of found property at Dolores High School, 1301 Central Ave., Dolores. A large blue duffel bag and a black nylon sack were found outside the school, containing clothes and books. Later in the day, a woman contacted the sheriff’s office saying she knew who the owner was and would direct him to pick up his belongings at the Dolores sub-station.
Saturday, Nov. 11
8:04 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 100 block of U.S. Highway 160 on suspicion of failing to provide proof of registration and displaying expired number plates after he was pulled over for driving without headlights and turning without using a turn signal. Bureau of Indian Affairs agents conducted an investigation after a K9 alerted them to possible illegal substances in the man’s vehicle.
2:29 p.m.: Deputies pulled over a vehicle near mile marker 25 on U.S. Highway 160 because the driver had a warrant from the Cortez Police Department. Because the man was Native American, the deputies notified Bureau of Indian Affairs agents, who arrested him and a female passenger after finding marijuana and drug paraphernalia in their vehicle. A juvenile passenger was placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
Monday, Nov. 13
4:55 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 28000 block of County Road H.6. A man reported his 1998 GMC 1500 truck had been stolen sometime during the past week, while he was at the Grand Canyon. The case remains under investigation.
Tuesday, Nov. 14
12:18 p.m.: A man was remanded to custody from Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., for a probation violation related to a charge of driving while impaired.
10:07 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of vandalism in the 2200 block of East Main Street. A woman reported the back window of her vehicle had been shattered, apparently by a rock, causing $500 in damage. She claimed her grandmother had told her someone was trying to enter their home between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. that day, and she said her brother had been threatening her recently. Responding deputies requested the case be closed because of a lack of evidence.
Wednesday, Nov. 15
7:37 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a service not rendered in the 27000 block of County Road N. A man claimed he had paid another man $700 to paint his barn, but he had not finished the job by the time they agreed to. Responding deputies attempted to contact the man on charges of theft and a violation of lien claim statutes, but were unable to find him immediately.
9:38 a.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to comply at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
Thursday, Nov. 16
9:50 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of obstructing a highway.
1:08 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a protection order violation in the 700 block of Memorial Drive. A man claimed his wife, against whom he has a protection order, had texted him and called him numerous times. Deputies were unable to immediately locate the woman.
3:37 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a hit-and-run traffic accident outside Ute Mountain Casino, 3 Weeminuche Drive, Towaoc. A woman claimed a vehicle had struck her husband’s truck while it was parked at the casino between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. the previous day, leaving a dent. The case remains under investigation.
