Wednesday, June 5

10:39 a.m. An officer was called to Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., about a report of intoxicated people yelling obscenities. The officer discovered two men wrestling, both with a smell of alcohol on their breath. The officer told the men they should leave the park. One man returned and asked the officer to arrest him. The man was arrested for disturbing the peace and left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

1:24 p.m. An officer was called to the 100 block of Park St. for a minor accident. A man had backed his GMC pickup into a concrete barricade. No citation was issued.

9:20 p.m. An officer was called to the Super 8 Motel, 505 E. Main St., to investigate a hit-and-run. A woman reported that a large Penske moving truck damaged a canopy in front of the motel. The officer took photographs of the canopy as evidence.

Thursday, June 6

12:34 a.m. An officer conducted a foot patrol of the Cortez Post Office, 35 S. Beech St., and discovered two men lying on the floor. One of the men was issued a summons for trespassing. Both men left without incident.

9:09 a.m. An officer was called to the 700 block of Main Street on a trespass call. A man who had been issued a trespass notice was at Liquid Assets. A man walking nearby was issued a summons for trespassing.

10:37 a.m. An officer issued an active warrant to a man at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St. The man was arrested and left in the custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

3:47 p.m. An officer issued arrested a woman on an outstanding felony warrant in the 200 block of North Edith Street. The woman was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

6:25 p.m. An officer served a man with an active warrant at the Montezuma County Detention Center.

8:31 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the West Y, West Main Street and South Broadway, about a possible drunken driver. The officer pulled over a silver car with New Mexico license plates. After getting out of the car, the woman fell and admitted to the officer that she had “four tall drinks.” A passenger in the rear seat had an open container of Jamison Whiskey. The woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI. At the Montezuma County Detention Center, the woman was issued a breath-analysis test that showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.341. The woman was also charged with driving with a revoked license, driving without proof of insurance, disregarding a stop light, weaving and possession of an open container. She was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

9:36 p.m. An officer was called to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., about a man who had been seen “huffing” in the bathroom. An officer discovered a man matching the suspect’s description next to Hibbit’s Sports, 215 S. Sligo St. The man was discovered with two cans of air duster in his mouth “huffing the contents of said cans.” An employee of Walmart advised the officer that the cans of air duster had been shoplifted from the store. The man was issued a summons for abuse of toxic vapors and third-degree criminal trespass. The man signed the summons and left the property without incident.

Friday, June 7

12:40 a.m. An officer stopped a driver in the 200 block of East Main Street after he witnessed a vehicle speeding. The officer observed the man driving the vehicle had bloodshot, watery eyes. The man speech was slurred when he told the officer he had several drinks at a sports bar. The man failed to complete roadside sobriety tests. The man was arrested for DUI. A breath-analysis test showed the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.083. The man was issued summons for speeding, failing to signal as required, driving while ability impaired. The man was released into the custody of his father.

6 p.m. An officer was dispatched to City Park, 802 Main St., about a fight in progress. The officer discovered a man who had been stabbed several times. The man did not know he had been stabbed. A witness described a fight among several apparently intoxicated people over a lighter. An intoxicated man matching the description of the suspected assailant was arrested. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital and transported to Montezuma County Detention Center and placed on a felony hold for first-degree assault. The man who was stabbed suffered multiple wounds to his back, armpit and arm and a punctured lung. The man was flown by helicopter to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango.

Saturday, June 8

1:02 a.m. An officer was called to an apartment complex in the 600 block of South Chestnut Street about an intoxicated man who was kicking and hitting doors. The suspect was seen walking southbound on Chestnut Street. The man was arrested for violating bond conditions that barred consumption of alcohol and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

1:41 a.m. An officer saw a dark pickup being operated unsafely and erratically in the 1000 block of South Oak Street. The officer pulled the pickup over and observed the driver had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. The driver also had an open bottle of beer. The driver’s license was confirmed as suspended for excessive points. The man declined to participate in a roadside sobriety check and a breath-analysis test. The man was arrested for driving under a restrained license, driving under the influence, weaving. At Montezuma County Detention Center a breath-analysis showed the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.259. The man was left in custody of the jail.

11:44 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the First Street Car Wash, 140 S. Harrison St., about an assault. A was in the reporting party’s car at the car wash and told the officer she had been assaulted by a man at the man’s home when she had tried to leave. Upon investigation, the officer determined the report of the assault was unfounded when visited the suspected assailant’s house. However, he arrested a woman who was at the house on an outstanding warrant for failure to comply. The woman was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

3:11 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. about on a shoplifting call. The suspect approached the officer in the store and apologized because he “messed up.” The man said he took a shirt because he needed one but didn’t have the money to pay for it. The man was issued a summons for trespassing and asked to leave the property.

9:50 p.m. An officer patrolling the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St., issued a man an active warrant for violation of a protection order. The man was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

Sunday, June 9

1:06 p.m. An officer’s check of a vehicle in the 600 block of S. Washington Street, showed the vehicle’s registration was suspended. The officer stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver for driving with a revoked license, driving an uninsured vehicle, and driving on a suspended license plate. The man was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

3:11 p.m. An officer was called to the Duck Pond, 515 N. Mildred Road, about an intoxicated man who refused to leave. The man was disturbing a birthday party and had returned several times. The man was arrested for disturbing the peace. At the Montezuma County Detention Center, the man was issued a breath-analysis that showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.216. The man was left in custody of the jail.

Monday, June 10

11:59 p.m. An officer was called to the 300 block of North Edith Street about a hit-and-run. The driver of a vehicle that reportedly hit a parked car was contacted. The man’s breath smelled of alcohol, and he failed to complete roadside sobriety checks. The man was arrested for DUI, driving without insurance, hit and run, careless driving and weaving. The man was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

Monday, June 11

11:01 a.m. An officer issued an active felony warrant to a woman at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St. The woman was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

12:44 p.m. An officer was called to a drive-in restaurant at 400 E Main St. about a minor accident. A car hit an awning at the restaurant. The driver and the restaurant reached an agreement to fix the damage.

5:48 p.m. An officer was patrolling the South Broadway area when he recognized a man riding a bicycle who had an outstanding warrant. The man fled on foot. Several officers were able to apprehend the man at South Oak and West Sixth Street. The man was arrested for possession of an illegal weapon and resisting arrest. He was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

6:48 p.m. An officer was called to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., about an intoxicated person in a vehicle. A woman was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear. The woman was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

7:11 p.m. An officer was called to the 300 block of North Chestnut St. to issue a felony warrant. A woman was arrested on a warrant for identity theft and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

11:20 p.m. An officer was called to the 600 block of Wyoming Street about an attempted break-in. The suspect was leaving the scene in a gray sedan with pink wheels. The car was stopped at East Empire and Sligo streets. The driver said he had been drinking and was unsteady on his feet. The man declined to perform roadside sobriety checks. The man was arrested for driving with a revoked license, driving under the influence, driving without proof of insurance and disorderly conduct. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
