Tuesday, Aug. 13

2:46 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., concerning a shoplifting call. The loss prevention officer showed the officer video surveillance of two men taking a six-pack of Corona beer and fleeing the store. One of the suspects was later located on South Broadway, and he failed roadside sobriety checks. The man was issued a summons for driving while ability impaired and for theft under $50. He was released to the custody to his sister.

5 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., to serve a warrant on a female inmate.

1:56 p.m. An officer was dispatched to First Street and South Market Street for a minor traffic crash. A white service truck and a black Chrysler 200 were involved. At a stop sign, the truck rolled backward into the Chrysler. The officer issued a report on the crash and the drivers exchanged contact information and insurance information.

3:06 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of East Second Street about an unwanted person in the area. A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

7:29 p.m. An officer was dispatched to City Park, 803 E. Montezuma Ave., about a harassment issue. The officer recognized a man who had been issued a protection order barring him from the park while intoxicated. The officer approached the man and smelled alcohol coming from him. The man was arrested for violation of a protection order and left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.

Wednesday, Aug. 14

1:34 p.m. An officer was patrolling near the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., when he recognized a man who had an active arrest warrant. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Thursday, Aug. 15

5:40 p.m. An officer was dispatched to City Park, 802 E. Main St., about a fight in progress. A woman and a man were involved in an altercation about money the man owed the woman for a drug deal that occurred some time ago. Both parties were instructed to leave the park. Later, the woman returned to the park and tried to start another fight. She was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

9:47 p.m. An officer was dispatched to City Market, 508 E. Main St., about a theft. The store reported a woman with a group of five people left without paying for beer. The party was identified in the parking lot. Two member of the group were issued summons for trespassing.

Saturday, Aug. 17

8:50 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the 800 block of South Chestnut Street about a report of shots being fired. While investigating the report, an officer arrested a man on an active warrant and the man was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

11:41 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of South Broadway about a woman who was intoxicated. A woman was arrested on an active warrant out of Mineral County and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

7:32 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Gerald’s Way about a traffic crash that was blocking traffic. A woman was backing up while delivering papers in a Ford Focus and she hit a gray Mitsubishi. The woman was issued a summons for unsafe backing.

2:21 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. about a possible assault. Two woman had been involved in a fight. One woman was arrested on violation of a protection order. She was also visibly intoxicated and a portable breath-analysis test showed she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.271. She was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
