Wednesday, July 24

11:09 a.m. A officer was dispatched to the Ute Coffee Shop, 17 S. Broadway, to deal with a patron who didn’t want to leave. The man was arrested on an arrest warrant and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

2:33 p.m. A officer was dispatched to Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 Park St., to issue an active warrant to a man. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

2:50 p.m. A officer was dispatched to City Market, 508 E. Main St., about a shoplifting call. A man admitted taking $33.93 in merchandise without paying for the items. He was issued a summons for shoplifting and released with a copy of the summons. A video footage from the store was entered as evidence.

3:50 p.m. An officer was dispatched to City Market, 508 E. Main St., about a theft. An employee said a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt left with two 24-packs of beer without paying for them. A man matching the description was located in City Park. He had one 24-pack case of Budweiser. City Market told the officer it wished to pursue charges and asked that he be banned from City Market for the remainder of the day. The man was issued a summons for shoplifting and told by the officer he could not return to City Market for the remainder of the day. The officer was unable to locate the second 24-pack of stolen beer.

6:06 p.m. A officer was dispatched to the 1500 block of South Broadway about a traffic crash. The officer filed a report about a Chevrolet pickup that had hit deer.

8:08 p.m. A officer was called to the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 N. Roger Smith Ave., about a man with an active warrant who provided a false identity at the center. A male suspect was identified and arrested on the active warrant. He also was issued a summons for providing false information. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

8:10 p.m. A officer was dispatched to Speedway, 2021 E. Main St., about a fight in progress. A car carrying suspects in the incident was stopped at the Speedway at 921 E. Main St. Three men were in the vehicle, and the officer observed several open containers of alcohol. The officer was warned one of the men might have a knife. During the incident, the driver became verbally combative with the officer. The officer handcuffed the man, who was believed to have a knife, and the verbally abusive driver. Officers identified a folding knife under the front street of the vehicle. One man was found to have an outstanding warrant and was arrested. The other two men were arrested on weapons offenses, felony menacing, disorderly conduct and harassment, operating an uninsured vehicle and possessing open containers of alcohol.

10 p.m. A officer was dispatched to the 800 block of South Chestnut Street on a disturbance call. Two men were reportedly fighting. Two suspects were interviewed by a officer. One of the men had an active warrant. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

10:19 p.m. A officer was called to the 100 block of South Harrison Street about a vehicle collision. A man said he was in his yard when he heard a loud crash and observed a yellow Nissan Xterra leaving the scene. He discovered the back gate of his fence was smashed. The officer filed a report about the incident.

Thursday, July 25

2:11 p.m. A officer issued an active warrant to a man at Cortez Cemetery, 2727 E. Empire St. The man was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

11:06 p.m. A officer in the City Market parking lot, 508 E. Main St., observed a man push a woman to the ground in at the fuel pumps. During an interview with the subjects, who both appeared to be intoxicated, both stated they had been in a relationship and both described hitting each other during a fight. The man and the women were arrested and issued a summons for harassment and domestic violence. Both suspects were left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Friday, July 26

11:44 a.m. A officer filed a report about a minor traffic accident in the 400 block of North State Street.

1:37 p.m. A officer was dispatched to the 2100 block of East Main Street about a traffic crash. Two vehicles collided while merging. A male driver in one of the vehicles had an active warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center. He was also issued summons for operating an uninsured vehicle, driving without a valid driver’s license and improper vehicle entering the roadway.

9:26 p.m. A officer was called to the 100 block of North Park Street about a fight in progress. Another officer was on the scene who observed two men on the ground fighting. Both men were handcuffed by the officers. One of the men had an active warrant for his arrest. The other man was issued a summons for disorderly conduct. Both men were left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

11:57 p.m. A officer was called to the 600 block of Elm Street about the violation of a protection action. A man was arrested for violation of a protection order banning possession or consumption of alcohol. The man was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Saturday, July 27

12:32 a.m. A officer was called to City Market, 508 E. Main St., about a suspected shoplifting incident involving a man and a woman who were in a gold minivan. The suspect van was located at the north entrance to the grocery store. The officer observed several items from the grocery store in the van. The woman admitted to taking the items without paying. The man and the woman were both issued a summons for shoplifting.

Sunday, July 28

2:22 a.m. A officer was called to the 700 block of Birch Drive about a drunken woman who was causing a disturbance. A woman had come home and was abusive and physically fighting with her father. The woman fell while in the bath tub. When medics arrived the woman, who was visibly intoxicated, yelled at them. The woman was arrested and transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for a medical clearance. She was issued a summons for third-degree assault and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

3:58 p.m. A officer observed a man in the 500 block of Madison Street who had an active warrant for his arrest. The man was arrested on a warrant for failure to comply. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

Monday, July 29

12:33 a.m. A officer was dispatched to Montezuma County Detention Center to issue an active warrant to a male inmate.

Tuesday, July 30

2:10 p.m. A officer was dispatched to City Park about several people causing a disturbance. A woman was arrested for underage consumption of alcohol and disturbing the peace. She was issued a breath analysis that showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.2. She was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

4:22 p.m. A officer was to the initial block of Driscoll Street by construction workers who said a woman was harassing them. The men from the construction crew said they had been working in the area for about six weeks, replacing sewer lines. They erected a temporary chain link fence along an alley parallel to a woman’ property. The woman was yelling at them for being on her property. The officer was told by dispatch the woman had been warned twice previously about harassing the work crew. The officer cited the woman for harassment after being shown the work was not on her property. Later the crew called dispatch to again complain about the woman harassing the crew. When the officer returned, the woman, who appeared intoxicated, became verbally abusive to the officer and the officer reported she ripped the clipboard out of his hands when he began issuing her a summons. The officer decided to arrest the woman, who continued to be uncooperative. The woman was verbally abusive during the arrest process. She was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital for a medical clearance. The woman was uncooperative with hospital staff members. The woman was taken to Montezuma County Detention Center and left in custody of the jail. Animal Control was called and notified to check on the condition of the woman’s two dogs.

5:29 p.m. A officer was called to City Pool, 803 E. Montezuma Avenue, about a man threatening people with a knife. A man was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants. The officer also located a knife on the man. The man was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.

7:39 p.m. A officer was patrolling at North Mildred Road and East Montezuma Avenue when observed a man stumbling in the intersection. A woman was trying to help the man walk. The man was arrested for violating a retraining order banning the consumption of alcohol. The man was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
