Wednesday, Sept. 12

1:17 p.m.: A car turned left from Roger Smith Ave. into the path of a westbound car in the 1200 block of E. Main St. and was hit, causing significant damage to both cars.

8:33 p.m.: A man at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., reported that another man tried to enter his car through a window, but fled when he displayed a gun. The responding officer then noticed a bloodied man near the library, and arrested a third man on suspicion of second-degree assault. The assault victim was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital, but transfered to Durango with a broken jaw. A fourth man was treated for knife wounds, which he blamed on the assault suspect.

10:17 p.m.: A woman reported that she had been beaten near the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., and was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital. The officer was unable to contact the suspect.

Thursday, Sept. 13

2:42 p.m.: A vehicle was rear-ended in the 300 block of East Main St. at S. Washington St.

3:56 p.m.: A man turned himself in and was arrested at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

4:17 p.m.: An employee at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., reported that a woman with three children shoplifted a cart full of items and escaped in a gray pickup truck with Arizona license plates. In addition to shoplifting, the woman may face charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The case is pending.

4:12 p.m.: A suspect in a shoplifting case at Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., was cited for trespassing.

7:41 p.m.: A southbound vehicle on Washington St. collided with an eastbound vehicle on E. Main St.

7:07 a.m.: A northbound vehicle hit a deer in the 700 block of N. Dolores Road.

3:53 p.m.: An officer investigated a collision at City Market, 508 E. Main St. A woman said that after she loaded groceries into her car’s trunk on North St. and returned the shopping cart to its corral in the City Market parking lot, she noticed her car rolling past her. She said she tried to jump into the driver’s seat to stop it, but was unsuccessful, and it hit an unattended pickup parked in the lot. She theorized that closing the trunk lid jarred her car into motion. The officer said the car rolled 270 feet across N. Harrison St. into the City Market parking lot and hit the pickup, causing moderate damage to both vehicles. No citation was issued.

6:46 p.m.: A woman was cited for disturbing the peace after allegedly driving by another woman’s place of employment, in the 100 block of S. Chestnut St., and yelling and cussing at her.

9:09 p.m.: A man was pulled over in the 1600 block of N. Mildred Road and arrested on a La Plata County warrant.

Friday, Sept. 14

12:27 a.m.: After a tip, an officer pulled over a westbound driver in the 2400 block of E. Main St. and arrested him on suspicion of DUI, driving with a restrained license, weaving, reckless driving, faulty turn-signal lamps and no proof of insurance.

1:19 a.m.: A man was arrested for violating an alcohol-related protection order after a call about a disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of W. Seventh St.

Saturday, Sept. 15

8:11 p.m.: A man was arrested on three warrants at the Conoco gas station at 302 W. Main St. after walking up to a cashier, drinking from an unpurchased Gatorade and telling her to “call the cops.” He told the police officer that he wanted to be jailed because he was cold. The Conoco clerk asked that he be trespassed from the station.

7:25 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the alley behind the Cork and Bottle liquor store, 443 E. Main St., for possessing an open container of alcohol. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital because of intoxication, then jailed.

Sunday, Sept. 16

1:11 a.m.: A man was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for wounds suffered in a fight near Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The suspect was not found.

10:40 a.m.: A woman reported that someone slashed a tire on her vehicle, parked at a residence in the 1000 block of S. Chestnut St.

10:03 p.m.: A northbound vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle at the Y intersection of S. Broadway and W. Main St.

Monday, Sept. 17

2:26 a.m.: A man was served a warrant at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

4:05 a.m.: A driver was arrested on a warrant in the 1900 block of E. Main St. He was later charged with possessing heroin, a Schedule 2 narcotic.

7:24 p.m.: A man allegedly stole a pair of Van’s sneakers from Bealls Department Store, 2216 E. Main St.

8:52 p.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree assault after allegedly throwing a punch at a doctor in the Southwest Memorial Emergency room. A hospital security officer restrained the man, who was not a patient.

8:38 p.m.: After a tip, an officer pulled over a driver in the 2800 block of E. Main St. and cited him with displaying fictitious license plates, driving without insurance and driving with a suspended license.

10:13 p.m.: A man was pulled over in the 300 block of S. Broadway and cited with driving without a license, registration and insurance.

Tuesday, Sept. 18

8:56 a.m.: A woman reported that a shipment containing $127 in silverware had been stolen at her residence in the 400 block of S. Cedar St.

10:17 a.m.: A man was cited for trespassing at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St.

11:14 a.m.: A woman was arrested on a warrant after she was seen entering Wendy’s restaurant, 221 E. Main St.

11:40 a.m.: An intoxicated woman was arrested on a warrant at a restroom in City Park, 802 E. Main St.
