Sunday, Dec. 17

6:58 p.m.: A woman reported that a driver had backed into her parked car near the intersection of East MacArthur Avenue and North Henry Street about an hour earlier, leaving minor scratches on a front bumper of her car.

10:03 p.m.: A man was arrested for disturbing the peace after he was found in a possible state of delirium near the Century 21 parking lot, 2218 E. Main St. According to a police report, he was earlier was at the Giant gas station at 2320 E. Main St., shouting and talking about “releasing his demons from the gates of hell.” A search produced a large cleaver in his front pocket, and a large dagger in his back pocket, and a multi-tool with a hatchet blade. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital and jailed. According to the report, the larger weapons posed too great a risk to store at the jail, so they were taken to the Cortez Police station.

11:21 p.m.: An officer who responded to a call about a possible theft of a pickup in the 200 block of North Elm Street arrested a man on six warrants. According to the officer, the man who reported the possible theft was trying to sell a pickup, and a potential buyer had taken it for a test drive while his friend, who was arrested on the warrant, stayed at the seller’s residence and watched over his puppies. The man who test-drove the pickup was later found inside the parked pickup, in an incoherent state. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital and released. The pickup owner got his truck back. The puppies were taken to the Cortez Animal Shelter.

Monday, Dec. 18

10:21 p.m.: A man was arrested in the Walmart parking on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence. According to a police report, a man and woman had gotten out of their car during an argument in the 200 block of W. Seventh Street, and the man pushed the woman, who hit her face on the back of the car as she fell. The couple were found and interviewed in the Walmart parking lot, and the man was arrested.

11:07 a.m.: An officer escorted a suspected trespasser out of a residence in 500 block of E. Montezuma Avenue. About 20 minutes later, the officer learned that the suspect had a protection order restraining him from the residence. If located, the suspect now faces charges of first-degree criminal trespass and violating a protection order.

1:07 p.m.: A man was cited with operating an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license in the 300 block of South Linden. The man said that he was driving the vehicle around the corner to park it and was trying to sell it. The vehicle was towed.

1:18 p.m.: An animal control officer spotted two loose dogs near the intersection of Third and South Pine streets, and followed them to a house where their caretaker lived. The caretaker was cited for dogs running at large and for possessing unlicensed dogs.

2:46 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1800 block of E. Main Street for driving with a revoked license.

4 p.m.: Two women were served warrants at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

11:08 p.m.: An intoxicated man was arrested on a warrant in Centennial Park, 515 N. Mildred Road, medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, and jailed.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

12:26 p.m.: An employee at Family Dollar, 324 S. Broadway, reported the theft of about $300 in merchandise.

1:08 p.m.: A woman was cited for unsafe backing after her car bumped into another car in the 100 block of West North Street.

1:58 p.m.: A woman was arrested on a felony warrant in the 200 block of West First Street.

8:04 p.m.: A man was arrested on four warrants in the 100 block of South Washington Street.
