Youth sports class coming to Cortez

Holly Kilburn will host classes for kids beginning Aug. 1 at Parque de Vida.

While attending Montezuma-Cortez High School, Holly (Tanner) Kilburn played volleyball, basketball and soccer.

Now 17 years removed from her high school graduation, the mother of two is set to host a series of classes aimed at exposing young people in the community to the sports that she loved.

The classes will begin on Aug. 1 at Parque de Vida and will include a classes for kids ages 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Classes will take place in the morning or evening depending on the age group and will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for three weeks.

Class participants will be exposed to basketball, football, baseball, soccer, volleyball and racket sports over the course of nine class sessions. Campers will receive snacks and a class T-shirt and fitness testing will be provided.

“We were involved in a kid’s sports class in Arizona and we absolutely loved it,” Killburn said. “It gives kids a variety of exposure to different sports and it’s a little bit more affordable for families.”
