Public Works wants residents’ help naming new trucks

Public Works aimed to engage residents of Cortez and Montezuma County by holding a naming contest for the new trucks. A total of 218 entries were received.

The winning names are:

  • PacMan, submitted by Jason Bedker.
  • Bin Diesel, submitted by Carol Duran.
  • Truck Norris, submitted by Chelsi Podrazik-Frascht.
  • Sidewinder, submitted by David Roberts.
  • Meryl Sweep, submitted by Ginny Rock.

Honorable mentions included Binderella and Free Loader for the rear-load units, Big Gulp and Kanye Waste for the side-load unit, and Lightning McSweep and Sweeping Beauty for the street sweeper.

A five-person selection committee was responsible for selecting the winners. The committee consisted of four city staff members and one “at-large citizen,” according to the news release.

The news release stated that several of the winning names had multiple entries. In these cases, the contestants’ names were placed in a bowl and drawn at random to determine the winner of the $100 Cortez Cash gift card. Other contestants who submitted the same names will receive a $10 Walmart gift card.
