WindSync quintet to play at Vavak Memorial Auditorium

Young ensemble plays mix of classical, lighter tunes
The woodwind quintet WindSync will play at the Ralph E. Vavak Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m.

The woodwind quintet WindSync, a young ensemble that mixes familiar classical music and lighter tunes with a captivating stage presence, will perform on Friday, Feb. 9, at the Montezuma-Cortez High School auditorium.

WindSync broadens appeal of the woodwind quintet to reach a wide audience. The quintet is composed of players on the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn.

WindSync will play Feb. 9 at the Ralph E. Vavak Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m.

WindSync is internationally recognized for dramatic and engaging interpretations of classical music. A winner of the 2012 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, the ensemble focuses on building a connection with audiences through adventurous programming and charismatic stage presence. The five virtuoso players perform from memory and specialize in creative concerts that inspire and entertain audiences of all ages.

Its program has a distinctly American flavor, featuring masterworks written for wind quintet – including Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music” – and its own transcriptions of uniquely American music like Aaron Copland’s “Variations on Simple Gifts,” Leonard Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide,” George Gershwin’s “Summertime,” and Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero.”

The concert is sponsored by the SouthWest Colorado Concert Association. For more information, call Jason Witt at 970-570-9051.
