Window Rock medicine man faces three years in federal prison

He admits to 20-year-old sex crime

A Window Rock man was sentenced to three years in federal prison on sex crime charges.

Tom Tso, 85, entered a plea agreement admitting to sexually abusing a woman 20 years ago when she was between the ages of 15 and 17 and was sleeping at Tso’s home.

The woman “stated that she woke up to find Tso's hand inside her pants. She kicked him away, locked herself in the bathroom, and he tried to unlock the door to get to her before leaving,” according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Tso, a Navajo medicine man and Native American Church Road Man, told the FBI that he touched the women “inappropriately,” and “he claimed that she had initiated sexual contact,” according to the FBI interview.

The woman reportedly told authorities she waited to report the incident out of fear, but then decided she should tell because, “there are children/women still in his reach” as a medicine man and road man, the news release stated.

Tso will be required to register as a sex offender and must serve five years of supervised release once out of prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Flores as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, the release stated.
