A wildfire preparation course is being hosted at the Mancos Public Library this Saturday.

The all-day Home Ignition Zone Workshop is being hosted in partnership by local nonprofit Wildfire Adapted Partnership, the Four Corners Board of Realtors, and the Montezuma County Colorado State University Extension Office.

The class will focus on reducing fire risk in the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ), or a home and the area surrounding it. The quality of the HIZ, coupled with the combustibility of the home structure, may determine whether or not a home survives a wildfire.

Participants will learn to identify ignition sources and vulnerabilities, in order to be able to remove them and protect their homes.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library at 211 W. First St. The cost is $30, with lunch provided. For more details or to sign up, visit the event website.
