Bob Dylan's birthday was on May 24. I’m on the pavement, thinking about the government. Ask why Republicans repeatedly refuse to even consider the most minimal sensible gun-reform legislation. Nineteen children, two teachers and many hospitalized so far in gun-loving Texas. Ever since Brady, Columbine, Sandy Hook and hundreds of other senseless killings, Democrats in Congress have worked, negotiated, pleaded to their colleagues for reform.
Why do Republicans refuse to pass even simple, sensible reforms? Ask them: What is so terrible about universal background checks? Why not restrict all gun purchases to people age 21? The last two killers were 18. At age 21, at least there is a bit more prefrontal cortex operation versus the amygdala that rules the brain processing of adolescents. What is wrong with a ban on semiautomatic weapons that no one needs for hunting or home protection?
Ask our local gunslinger U.S. Rep. Boebert for an answer and good luck! The association between NRA campaign contributions to Republicans and their resistance to any morally legitimate gun legislation is telling. Send Boebert and the NRA sycophants home in 2022.
