Dolores junior Aaron Nielson raced away from the field at the Bayfield Invitational on Saturday, winning the boys race with a time of 19 minutes, 28 seconds.
The Dolores boys placed fourth overall.
In the girls race, Dolores senior Elia Lowe (24:24) placed second overall, and the Bears took third place in the team results.
Montezuma-Cortez’s William Blair (21:19) and Orin Samulski (21:38) of Dolores placed eighth and ninth, respectively, in the boys race. Teagan Archer (25:44) of Mancos placed eighth in the girls race, while Maya Lowe (21:38) and Emilynn Hill (26:32) of Dolores placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
The Bluejays won this past Thursday’s match in straight sets to stay atop the San Juan Basin League Standings. The Bears responded by beating Ouray in straight sets on Saturday.
Mancos (8-3, 4-0) will host Montezuma-Cortez on Tuesday, while Dolores (3-6, 2-1) will host Dove Creek that same night.
The Panthers topped Bayfield in four sets, collecting their first league victory since October 2021.
Following Tuesday’s match, Montezuma-Cortez (6-7, 1-0) will play at Del Norte on Sept. 21.
Montezuma-Cortez edged Miyamura 2-1 on the road Thursday, but lost 7-0 against Silver on Friday.
The Panthers will wrap up their New Mexico road trip this upcoming Thursday at Kirtland Central.
The Panthers are still in the hunt for the Western Slope League title after snapping a five-game skid on Saturday.
Montezuma-Cortez thrashed Basalt 18-13 and currently sit atop the league standings at 6-2.
The Panthers (7-8 overall) will host Rifle in a Sept. 28 doubleheader.
