AZTEC – The stock car racing season at Aztec Speedway rolled on last weekend with programs on Friday and Saturday night. Here’s a look back at all the weekend results.
Saturday’s program saw a lot of action, though the official car count was low in the Modified division. The drivers still put on a show for the fans with Julian Garcia taking the win over his son Julian Garcia Jr. and Cameron Martin.
The Hobby Stock race saw no shortage of excitement with John Thomas getting upside-down on the first lap in turn three before Kaison Zufelt ended up on his roof a few laps later. Those incidents forced an early finish to the race with Jason Duggins getting the win, followed by Hunter Ferrell, Kyler Duggins, John Thomas and Jenna Wilson.
Katie Barthel continued her winning streak in the Sport Compact Division getting her 13th win on the season, ahead of by Ted Neergaard, Alfred Hicks, Abbi Barthel and Joy Bowen.
There was a dramatic finish to the Dwarf/Modlite division’s main event. In the final lap of the race, Rafe O’Brien and Ross Ham were battling for the lead before getting together in turn four. Blain Olson squeaked by them to get his first win of the season followed by Shane DeVilbiss, Leon Shim, Rafe O’Brien and Gabe Shim.
The Stock Cars put on one of the best races of the night, racing 3-4 wide most of the race with Steffan Carey winning followed by Jeramy Hughes, Nathan Lemons (who also rolled on his side Friday night), Allen Bradley and Jay Kibel.
The Northern Sports also put on a great race for the fans with Aaron Spangler getting the win over son Camron Spangler, Waylon Hale, Julie Keeler and Rayce Green.
On Friday night, the weekend racing program kicked off with a lot of great action.
In the Hobby Stock division, Kyler Duggins soared to another win in the main event, followed by Hunter Ferrell, as well as John Thomas from Strasburg, Colorado. He was followed by Mylee JoAnn and Kaison Zufelt.
Katie Barthel also found the checkered flag in the Sport Compacts main event, followed by Ted Neergaard, Abbi Barthel, Joy Bowen, Jon Kinder and Grant Hobbs.
In the Modlite/Dwarf Car division, Gabe Shim took the led on the first lap and never looked back to score his first career victory. He topped Ross Ham, Leon Shim, Rafe O’Brien, Blane Olson and Shane DeVilbiss.
Camron Spangler found victory lane over his father, Aaron Spangler, in the Sport Mod Division followed by Rayce Green, Brian Carey, and Julie Keeler.
Julian Garcia, Jr. won in the Modified Division followed by Lindsay Oklahoma’s Tim Hamilton. Cameron Martin and Julian Garcia Sr. rounded out the top four finishers.
Allen Bradley also found victory lane for the first time this season followed by Travis Sutherlin, Darell Cordary, Traci Bradley and Matt Dossey.
Racing action resumes at Aztec Speedway on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2. The racetrack recently announced an extension to its current 2023 season, which will run through Oct. 7.
