The National Weather Service on Monday night issued a flash flood advisory for Montezuma County until 7:45 p.m.
Flooding cased by excessive rain was expected, to follow on top of heavy rainfall received Monday afternoon.
Flooding was expected in low-lying and poorly drained areas, with ponding of water in city limits. The threat was imminent, the weather service said.
At 6:39 p.m. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain.
