A water main break early Monday morning closed a lane of westbound traffic at 1200 E. Main St. in Cortez and left some businesses in the area without water.

Drivers should expect delays near Roger Smith Avenue and East Main Street, near Ziggi’s Coffee and the Quality Inn, the city of Cortez said in an alert about 5:15 a.m.

According to the city of Cortez, the break would affect water in a roughly three-block area, and some users would notice dirty tap water. A block away, however, the McDonald’s restaurant at 1322 E. Main St. was operating and sending fresh coffee out its drive-thru windows. Ziggi’s was not yet operating by 7:15 a.m.

Cortez City Hall, at 123 Roger Smith Ave., a block north of the break, reported that it had running water, and Pam Imm, assistant clerk at Municipal Court, said court would be in session.

The Cortez Service Center hoped to have the line repaired by 4 p.m. Monday, the city announced on its Facebook page.
