A Durango man wanted on suspicion of weapons charges crashed a vehicle into a house Monday morning near Eighth Street and East Eighth Avenue. The suspect fled on foot.

Law enforcement are on the lookout after a suspect in a police chase crashed a vehicle into a house near Eight Street and East Eight Avenue, and then took off on foot.

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chris Burke said a deputy made contact with a person who had a felony warrant at the Durango Post Office at 222 W. Eighth St.

The driver, however, took off, Burke said. Because of traffic concerns, the deputy temporarily called off the pursuit, but the vehicle was relocated on north Main Avenue.

The driver, identified as Freedom Anderson, crashed the vehicle into the car port and front entry of a house, before fleeing on foot.

Anderson, in his mid-20s, was last seen wearing a black hat and gray sweatshirt. He is wanted on suspicion of weapons charges.

Anderson is considered armed and dangerous, Burke said.

Burke said a passenger in the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with law enforcement.
