Walls rise on new Aaron’s building

Main Street store is scheduled to open in November
Construction is well underway for the Aaron’s store next to Safeway in Cortez.

Excitement was rising last week as the walls went up at the new Aaron’s store near Safeway in Cortez.

The furniture, appliances and electronics store is expected to be finished about Nov. 1, and store manager Tom Chavez said he can’t wait to move.

“The store will be a little bit bigger and more visible to our customers with increased traffic,” Chavez said.

Aaron’s opened in Cortez 10 years ago and is owned by local businessman Spencer Smith, who owns 48 Aaron’s stores.

Chavez said the new, bigger store at 1620 E. Main St. will feature a newly designed Generation 4 floor plan, the first such plan to go into an Aaron’s store.

“This is a big honor,” he said.

The floor plan is designed to showcase the furniture.

“When you approach a bedroom set, you will be walking into a room. People are better to imagine what it would look like in their homes,” he said.

The staff at the Aaron’s are also excited about getting a loading dock, which they don’t have at the current store at 2288 E. Main St.

“The loading dock should save so much time. Everything will run more efficiently,” Chavez said. “It can take hours to unload furniture now.”

The store has free delivery and delivers as far away as Moab.

After the move, Chavez said, there will be a customer appreciation event.

There are 2,300 Aaron’s stores across the U.S. and Canada.
