Walchak to present '52 Rivers' slideshow on June 12

On Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m., the Mancos Public Library hosts Shelley Walchak's slideshow presentation, "52 Rivers". This is the third program in the library's series "Life Is An Adventure." Join Bayfield, Colorado, author, angler, and librarian, Shelley Walchak, for a slideshow of the rivers that she journeyed to during a year-long adventure. Her stories are also compiled in her new book 52 Rivers. Books will be available for purchase and signing. In honor of National River Month, representatives from Dolores River Boating Advocates and Trout Unlimited will also share information about their organizations and "River" photography from Kate Thompson and Andy Hutchinson will be featured on the Library's "Art Wall" for the month of June. For more information, visit www.mancoslibrary.org or call the library @ 970-533-7600.

About Shelley Walchak

Walchak's passions are fly-fishing and libraries. In 2013, Walchak said, she fly-fished a river a week, blogged and wrote essays, hoping to inspire others. In 2014, Walchak wrote the book "52 Rivers," about the adventure.

As a librarian, shelearned the value of storytelling, both from the experts in the field and her own experiences. Walchak said she believes stories are integral to our survival because they help us to experiment with our emotions and strategize on the challenges we face in life.

In her blog and her book, she tells stories about fly-fishing, the outdoors, traveling, people, challenges, joys and fears. In the end, her stories are meant to give you courage and inspiration to pursue your own path to a more passionate life. I plan on telling a lot more stories.
