I hope you will join me in voting for Amendment 79 on our Colorado ballot this year. Amendment 79 is a chance for Colorado to restore in our state Constitution what the Supreme Court took away with the Dobbs decision.
As an RN, I worked for Planned Parenthood for 7+ years in abortion care. If I have one message to share, it is that just when you think you have seen the most disturbing case with an unwanted or unviable pregnancy, another walks through the door for help. I witnessed a situation where a woman’s state of residence shutdown abortion access, she lost her job, had been evicted and her partner left when he found out they were pregnant. I do believe she would have harmed herself if we had not been there for her.
These are not black and white issues. These are human beings with really big problems, some more than we can fathom. This is one of the most difficult decisions they must make in their lives. I very rarely met a person who took the decision to have an abortion lightly.
Colorado is surrounded by states that are extremely restricted when it comes to reproductive health care. We must codify abortion in our constitution so what has happened in Texas, Nebraska, Idaho, Wyoming, etc., cannot happen here. Colorado is better than that. Please support and vote for Amendment 79 so we will always be a place of refuge for those with unwanted or unviable pregnancies.
