Ute Mountain Ute Tribe will hold special election

Feb. 1 election is for one open tribal council seat

The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe will hold a special election Feb. 1 for one vacant tribal council seat.

The seat became open after former councilman Selwyn Whiteskunk resigned to run for tribal chairman.

The candidates are Angelita Berry, Leland Collins Sr., Archie House Jr., Gina Lopez, Prisllena Nightstarr, Selwyn Whiteskunk and Davis Wing.

The voting booths at the Community Center in Towaoc will be open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot for all nonresident tribal members is Dec. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

Contact the Election Board during office hours to request an absentee ballot at (970) 564-5635.

The election board office hours are: Monday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All enrolled members living off the reservation who would like to vote in the election must request an official notarized absentee ballot.
