Ute Mountain Ute tribe to burn slash piles at Adams Ranch

The Journal

The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and FireWise of Southwest Colorado plan to burn slash piles at Adams Ranch near Summit Lake between Mancos and Dolores during December 2016.

The slash piles are a result of forest thinning that took place in 2007. Ignition will take place during daylight hours with a snow cover and will be closely monitored. The burning crews will consist of Ute Mountain Ute Natural Resources personnel, Dolores Fire Protection District personnel and Tres Rios Field Office BLM fire crew personnel as available, supervised by Short Forestry.

The burning is expected to start in mid-December and take two to five days, depending on weather.
