Ute Mountain Casino and Hotel in Towaoc closes

Restaurant at Montezuma County’s second-largest employer serves to-go orders
The Ute Mountain Casino and hotel closed Wednesday because of the threat of the coronavirus.

The Ute Mountain Casino and Hotel in Towoac closed Wednesday to prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus.

Kuchu’s Restaurant will continue to serve to-go orders, but there will be no inside dining service.

The Ute Mountain tribal council ordered all gaming operations be suspended “after determining the potential presence of the virus presents a serious threat to the health of all persons on or entering the Reservation,” according to a tribe press release.

Hotel services will end as soon as reasonable accommodations can be made for its current patrons. The nearby RV park is also closed down.

The closures of the casino, hotel, and RV park will last through April 8, or until further notice, health and tribal officials report.

The Ute Mountain Casino and Resort has a staff of 400, and is the second-largest employer in Montezuma County.

No confirmed cases of the coronavirus reported are on the Ute Mountain Reservation or in Montezuma County, health officials report.

The Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Council has been in frequent consultation with tribal, state and federal health officials, who are closely monitoring the advance of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, tribal officials said.
