UPDATE: Two men in fatal crash off County Road G are ID’d

Two men in crash are identified

One person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash in Cortez Tuesday morning.

Capt. Adrian Driscoll, of the Colorado State Patrol Troop 5A, said the crash occurred at 7:47 a.m. on private property in the 25000 block of County Road G.

Two men from Cortez were in the vehicle, he said. A passenger, identified on Wednesday as 22-year-old Ethan Marple, was killed. The driver, 21-year-old Carl Wright, was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

State Patrol troopers and Montezuma County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. Driscoll said the vehicle, a 1987 Ford Ranger, had apparently rolled over on a slight curve. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

Driscoll said troopers were investigating speed and drugs as possible causes of the crash. Depending on results of the investigation, charges could be filed against Wright, who had been released from the hospital by Wednesday morning.
