PUEBLO – Following up their winning seasons, three coaches from Southwest Colorado were selected to coach in the Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Games.
M-CHS girls basketball’s Brad Wright, Mancos volleyball’s Brianna Yeomans-Allison, and Dove Creek volleyball’s Lacey Murphy will get one more chance to coach some of their recently graduated seniors in a capstone event.
Wright, who will coach senior Savannah Haselroth on the Black team roster in the All-State competitions June 11-14 in Pueblo, led M-CHS to one of the program’s best years. A prominent part of the rise of the team since taking the helm in 2019, Wright and the Panthers enjoyed their first winning season in over two decades and an appearance in the 3A state tournament’s Sweet 16.
Yeomans-Allison will get one more chance to lead a team that features her daughter, as Teya Yeomans will play on the White team in the CHSCA games. The Mancos volleyball team made their first state appearance in over a decade and won the San Juan Basin League in the final year of Yeomans-Allison’s last few seasons in charge. The Bluejays head coach will step away from coaching this fall.
Murphy’s Red team will include Dove Creek’s Kylie and Kalie Gatlin in what will be Murphy’s final matches coaching the duo, as well as her last matches representing the high school, as Murphy has stepped down from her position. The Bulldogs made the state semifinals in the 1A state tournament this year, capping four consecutive winning seasons under Murphy’s guidance.
Mancos’ Kail Wayman will also participate in the games, playing on the South team in the all-state football game.
The CHSCA All-State games will kick off Tuesday, June 11, with basketball games on the 11th and 12th, and volleyball matches to follow on the 13th and 14th, with action taking place on the campus of CSU-Pueblo. The event invites graduated seniors from across the state to get to represent their schools and communities one more time as they close out their high school careers.
