A traffic signal has been replaced with a four-way stop sign at Main Avenue and Eighth Street, where a crash damaged a post.

An alert posted on the city of Durango’s website and sent to Durango Alert subscribers warned drivers to avoid the intersection as workers remove the damaged post, according to the official notice. City Operations Director Levi Lloyd said it may be two weeks before officials decide what to do about the damage.

A semitrailer driver turned too sharply and hit the pole Monday.

The impact flattened protective posts at the corner and damaged the foundation of the traffic light pole.

The Durango Police Department did not immediately return a phone call Tuesday seeking comment.

In the meantime, he encouraged residents to use caution when approaching the intersection and be prepared to stop.

The city of Durango has encouraged residents to check the city’s social media accounts for updates.
