Titans bound for Super Bowl

It’s a first trip for fourth- and fifth-graders

For the first time in its 11-year history, the Montezuma Titans football organization will send two teams to the Young American Football League Super Bowl.

The Titans’ fourth- and fifth-grade teams cruised through the playoffs and will compete for the championship on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Navajo Prep in Farmington, NM.

The teams are composed of players from Cortez and Dolores, and they faced teams from Bloomfield, Aztec, Shiprock, Farmington, Kirtland and Pagosa Springs in the league.

Jarrod Wyatt is the head coach of the 9-1 fourth-grade team, which kicks off on Saturday at noon.

The fifth-grade team, led by Montezuma-Cortez High School principal Dr. Jason Waymon, enters the final game with a 7-2 record and will play at 2 p.m.
