When is enough, enough?
The stature of our culturally diverse Western Slope region is being continually pummeled and diminished by the outrageous, divisive speech from the mouth of Lauren Boebert. Our congressional district placed her in a position of public trust, which she shatters with a sledgehammer at every opportunity. She represents the antithesis of the Western code of ethics that promotes respect, honesty and caring for the well-being of neighbors.
Boebert’s public declaration, reported by The Durango Herald, that school districts across the country are providing litter boxes for children “who identify as cats,” citing specifically the highly respected Durango 9-R school district, has tipped the scale of absurdity. Her motive in promulgating untruths and conspiracy theories is simple. She seeks to undermine trust and confidence in our schools, and deepen the political divide in our country.
As an interim administrator and consultant, I have worked with scores of dedicated educators and visited multiple classrooms across the Southwest. We have every reason to celebrate our schools, and the faculty and staff who are working every day to open doors and create future opportunities for our children by teaching critical thinking skills, fostering empathy and curiosity through rigorous curriculum and engaging learning activities.
Enough should truly be enough.
Please, send the ridiculous lies, conspiracy theories and divisive speech-packing back to Rifle. Vote for Adam Frisch, who will restore civility, compromise and respect to our congressional district.
