Three names have been forwarded to Gov. Jared Polis by the 6th Judicial District Nominating Commission for consideration to fill the La Plata County Court judge position left vacant after voters chose Nov. 8 not to retain former judge Anne Woods.
The recommendation of the three nominees to the governor were chosen Dec. 9 from eight candidates who applied for the position. The nominees are Anthony Baca of Dolores County, Anthony Edwards of Silverton and R. Reid Stewart of Hesperus.
The governor has 15 days from Dec. 12 to appoint one of the nominees to the position, according to the Colorado Constitution. If the governor does not make a choice, a nominee will be chosen by the chief justice of the Colorado Supreme Court.
The person chosen serves an initial term of two years. The judge must then stand for retention at the next general election. The annual salary for the position is $175,908.
