Three men injured in ‘mutual combat’ with knives

‘Sport’ turns into fight after knives come out

Three men engaged in a “mutual combat” with knives were taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center on Sunday.

A spokesman with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office said a report came in Sunday evening that three people involved in the fight were injured in an apartment complex near the 1900 block of Florida Road (County Road 240).

“From my understanding, three people began a mutual fight of some type – sport or play or whatever – but then it went too far,” Sgt. Wes Doughty said. “Knives were introduced and people got pretty badly injured.”

Mutual combat occurs when people willingly enter into a physical fight.

“It’s kind of a weird one, for sure,” Doughty said.

All three men were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Doughty said as of Monday, no one has been charged in the fight. However, the incident is still being actively investigated.

Because no one has been charged, the Sheriff’s Office has not released the names of the individuals involved in the fight.
