Three chances to meet candidates for Montezuma County commissioner

First forum planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday at sale barn

Three public meetings are planned leading up to the Montezuma County Board of Commissioners election in November.

Tuesday night, the Southwest Colorado Livestock Association will host a forum of candidates for Montezuma County Commission District 1.

It is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Cortez Livestock Auction (Sale Barn), 12129 U.S. Highway 491.

The forum will be moderated by Livestock Association member Pam Suckla. There will be opportunity for the public to ask questions.

On Sept. 6, the Four Corners Free Press and KRTZ radio will sponsor a forum providing voters the chance to “meet and question” the candidates. It is at 6 p.m. at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave. in Dolores.

On Sept. 18, the League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum at the Montezuma County Combined Court, 865 N. Park St. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the forum begins at 6:30 p.m., according to a press release from Eleanor Kuhl.

Candidates include Republican Jim Candelaria, unaffiliated Steve Chappell, Democrat MB McAfee and unaffiliated Jesse James Sattley.
