Thieves remove gate at Security Storage in Dolores, take RV

Owners offer $1,000 reward for vehicle
Thieves removed a gate from its hinges so they could steal a recreational vehicle from a Dolores storage facility on July 5.

A recreational vehicle was stolen from Bud’s Security Storage on Colorado Highway 145 on July 5 shortly before the owners were scheduled to take a five-week vacation in the vehicle.

Janie and Bud Rosamond put their RV in storage about two years ago when they moved to Texas from the Dolores area, Janie Rosamond said.

Days before the couple planned to arrive for the RV, a thief or thieves cut the lock off the main gate to the storage facility, then took the gate in front of the couple’s RV off its hinges to steal the vehicle, she said. The thieves left other vehicles stored next to the RV, she said.

“Somebody got word that we were fixing to come into town,” she said.

It wasn’t the first time something suspicious happened involving the RV at the storage facility.

A few months ago, someone took the chain and lock from in front of the couple’s storage unit but left the vehicle, Rosamond said.

Although the RV is gone, the couple came to the area anyway and have spent the past few days searching for it and putting out fliers, she said. The two also are offering a $1,000 reward if the 26-foot-long trailer is returned in decent condition, she said.

The Rosamonds previously owned the storage facility where the RV was kept, she said.

“We figured it was secure,” she said.

Anyone with information about the RV can report it to the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office at 565-8452.
