A Bayfield man was arrested Friday after allegedly urinating the first initial of his name on a wall in a movie theater at Allen Theatres’ Durango Stadium 9.
Around 11 p.m. Friday, the Durango Police Department received a report that a man with long gray hair and a red puffy jacket dropped his pants and urinated in a movie theater, at 900 Trans Lux Drive. The man, witnesses told police, punched a chair then left.
As officers arrived, they were informed the man had got into a small gray sedan and headed north toward the Durango Mall entrance. Police saw a small gray Nissan Versa turning onto South Camino del Rio and stopped the car.
The officer wrote in his report there was one person in the vehicle – a man wearing a red puffy jacket. The officer also saw there was a six-pack of beer on the floorboard.
The man, identified as Michael Steven Greer, 41, told police he was coming from a movie. The officer smelled alcohol on Greer’s breath and asked how much he had to drink. Greer said a “few whiskeys.”
Greer was asked to get out of the car and stumbled doing so. The officer noted in his report Greer’s zipper to his pants was down.
“Greer swayed side to side as he stood, and his eyes were glassy,” the officer wrote. “I explained to Greer the reason for my contact with him, and Greer denied urinating in the theater.”
The officer arrested Greer for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Back at the movie theater, witnesses told police they saw Greer expose his genitals, urinate in the theater, then drive away. Officers found a flask in the seat where Greer was sitting.
“(An officer) also took pictures of the wall Greer urinated on,” the report said. “The wet stains on the wall were in the shape of the letter ‘M’.”
Police estimate the cost for cleaning the wall at $300.
On top of the DUI charge, Greer was also charged with public indecency and criminal mischief.
