Sunflower Theatre Troupe plans ‘Love Letters’ for Valentine’s Day

Reader’s Theatre explores hearts

The Sunflower Theatre Troupe presents a Valentine’s Day performance of “Love Letters,” which explores love and the human heart, on Feb. 14.

The Reader’s Theatre performance will highlight letters from Johnny Cash, Frida Kahlo, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Leslie Marmon Silko, among many others.

“Celebrate Valentine’s Day with someone you love by listening to expressions of affection, passion, and tenderness from some of the most beloved icons of literature and music,” the news release said.

Reader’s Theater is a style of theater in which the actors do not memorize the text, the Sunflower Theatre said Tuesday in a news release. Actors use vocal expression, minimal set, props, lighting, sound, and other media to help the audience understand the story. This style of performance has been praised for its emphasis on listening to written text as a way to understand literature.

“Love Letters” utilizes multimedia such as projections and pictures to help illustrate the lives of the authors.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, but doors open at 6:30 p.m.
