Sunflower hosts The Cannondolls and Six Dollar String Band

Durango-based bands Six Dollar String Band and The Cannondolls will take the Sunflower Theatre’s stage for a night of Americana, country and old-time Southwest Colorado music on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Caitlin Cannon and Kate Willyard share their passion for melody and frank lyrics in The Cannondolls, an Americana project that bridges quirky and emotionally rich songwriting styles with modern influences of Jason Isbell and Shovels and Rope, as well as Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie and Patsy Cline. Known for intricate harmonies, their sound pulls in audiences and churns out fans. The duo added fiddle player Alissa Wolf in 2015 and often features guest musicians. A live performance sometimes treats fans to giveaways of handmade jewelry or a batch of freshly baked cookies, offering glimpses into the band’s optimistic and refreshing musical process.

“Six Dollar String Band captures the exuberant, communal and unifying spirit inherent in old-time music,” according to a press release from the Sunflower. In Durango, the band is regarded for its tight, driving and passionate sound.

The show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sunflower Theatre, 8 E. Main St. Doors and cash bar open at 6:15, and tickets are $12 at www.sunflowertheatre.org and $15 at the door.
