A weather advisory is in effect for the southwest San Juan Mountains from midnight Tuesday until 9 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Up to 9 inches of snow was forecast for the Telluride area.
Northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph were expected, with gusts reaching 40 mph on Wednesday. The weather service gave a 70% chance of less than an inch of precipitation in Montezuma and La Plata counties.
Travel may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, the weather service said.
Daytime temperatures Wednesday in Montezuma and La Plata counties were expected to be near 40 degrees. Overnight Wednesday, lows were expected to fall to about 25 degrees.
Sunny skies were forecast for Thursday, with a high temperature in the mid-40s and a low in the mid-20s.
