Storm provides first snow day in 5 years

Last year, students got two 'water days' during crisis

Students at the Mancos School District Re-6 enjoyed their first snow day in five years Monday after a snow storm dumped lots of heavy, wet snow on the Four Corners.

Mancos School District Superintendent Brian Hanson said the last true snow day in Mancos was called on Jan. 22, 2010.

"It has been a long time," Hanson said.

However, he added, the district did use two snow days last year during the Mancos water crisis because of a lack of drinkable water.

"But those weren't real snow days," Hanson said.

School resumed Tuesday and no problems were reported with transporting children to school, he added.

Mancos Town Administrator Andrea Phillips said the town's plow crews worked hard Sunday and Monday to clear the streets of Mancos.

She estimated 8 to 9 inches fell in Mancos, but there was no official report.

No serious accidents were reported, Phillips said.
