The 2022 Zia Taqueria 4 Corners Cyclocross Series kicked off Saturday in Dolores with its first of four races, challenging cyclists with human-made obstacles and challenging off-camber turns.
With 28 competitors, the open men’s race had the largest field in Dolores. Ivan Sippy, however, emerged as the winner. Todd Wells finished second, followed by Troy Wells, Rotem Ishay and Jonathan Anderson in fifth.
Natalie Quinn, meanwhile, won the open women’s race. Sarah Sturm finished second, followed by Ruth Holcomb, Sabrina Hayes and Bailey Cioppa in fifth.
Four other categories also raced in Dolores.
In the U14 boys race, Patrick Matlock finished first, Cooper Wells crossed second, and Fielder LeCompte placed third.
Jacob Huber won the B-men/junior men’s race while Tor Hom took second and Adam Clapp third.
In the men’s 35-plus race, Greg Lewis won, Brendan Shafer took second and Gaige Sippy finished third.
In the men’s 50-plus race, Joseph Schults took the win, Dave Hagen placed second and Andy Fox finished third.
On Saturday, the series will head to Cortez for the second race.
On Nov. 12, the bikers will compete at Durango Mesa in the morning, while the singlespeed cyclocross world championships will follow in the afternoon.
The series will the conclude Nov. 19 at Fort Lewis College.
