Snow falling on the black night
shimmers of silver
and white
on a gray velvet background
hiding distant stars
from my eyes
but, Oh!
I know that they are there
shining down
shining bright
peeking through
lace covered windows
at me
lying in bed
propped up by pillows
tucked under layers
of blankets
keeping me company
as I sleep
still
quiet
unmoving
in my dreams
of unknown quests
for I wake
without knowing
who I was
as I slumbered
or who I became
during the night’s journey
I set aside my worn journal
my blue pen
and reach to turn off
the brass lamp
that my mother always kept on
to chase away her demons
shivering
though my heart burns with fever
I whisper my love
to the world
and close my eyes
