Tuesday, Feb. 25

12:46 p.m. A woman was cited with criminal mischief, domestic violence and driving with a revoked license after she threw a rock at the windshield of her boyfriend’s truck. As he was driving away, she jumped into the bed of the truck and banged on the back window, causing him to pull over. When he did, she got into the car and drove off. He found the vehicle in the 24000 block of Road G. When he arrived, she ran.

Wednesday, March 12

10:20 a.m. An inmate at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., threw and shattered an electronic tablet valued at $200.

Thursday, March 13

8:54 a.m. A woman was arrested and cited with three counts of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct at the Baymont Inn & Suites in Cortez, 2279 Hawkins St., after fighting with four employees there. She allegedly threw a hot beverage at one of them and pulled another’s hair. A video showed her on top of another employee “actively punching her.”

9:45 a.m. Two drivers were engaged in “road rage” on Colorado Highway 145 at Mile Marker 16. Each driver accused the other of sideswiping their vehicle while trying to pass the other – and both had video footage of it – thus fueling the road rage. State Patrol filled out crash witness forms.

6:17 p.m. A man was arrested and cited with DUI after his breath sample read a 0.161, and he failed roadside tests. He had been “swerving all over the road” in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 160. He was also cited for failure to provide proof of insurance.

Friday, March 14

7:05 a.m. Two vehicles crashed in the 5000 block of U.S. Highway 160 after a driver lost traction and started “fishtailing.” It caused the left rear of his truck to collide with another vehicle and become “severely damaged.” Neither driver was injured.

Monday, March 17

8:21 a.m. A man woke up to see his windshield and driver side window busted in the 18000 block of Colorado Highway 145 in Dolores. There was a large rock on the ground outside the vehicle and another inside, on the passenger floorboard. Both rocks had glass shards in them. There are no suspects in the case.

11:01 a.m. A man with three warrants out of Dolores County was arrested in the 24000 block of Road N in Cortez.

2:57 p.m. A silver Jeep was allegedly hit by a truck hauling a trailer where “the two lanes merge into one.” The truck driver did not immediately pull over, so the Jeep driver sped up and got his attention to pull over. The truck pulled over, and two men got out. They reportedly pushed the Jeep driver against his car and said that he was lucky they didn’t shoot him. Two people witnessed the crash and assault. The case is under investigation.

Tuesday, March 18

3:05 p.m. A woman reported things missing from her home in the 12000 block of Colorado Highway 145 in Cortez. She dropped charges after the suspect, whom she knew, got “scared” and returned everything. “Me and my son got him he peed his pants a little there was no violence involved I promise,” she wrote in a text to authorities.

Wednesday, March 19

7:58 a.m. A woman driving westbound on Colorado Highway 184 passed a patrol car when the lines were double yellow. There was oncoming traffic, and the sheriff had to brake to let her back into the lane to avoid a collision. She was cited for passing when it wasn’t clear of traffic.

9:29 a.m. A 76-year-old man donated about 4,000 rounds of miscellaneous ammunition to the Sheriff’s Office. It will be sorted for use or to be destroyed.

Thursday, March 20

11 a.m. A man was arrested and cited with two counts of contempt of court at the Montezuma Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

4:14 p.m. A 21-year-old man was arrested and cited with reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after he “took the corner too fast and crashed his vehicle” in the 43000 block of Road M in Mancos. He told authorities he was “cross-faded” after having “two shots and two bowls of a pipe.”

Friday, March 21

8:59 a.m. A driver hit a mailbox and ended up in a ditch in the 19000 block of Colorado Highway 145. Nobody was injured.

9:02 a.m. A man reported his vehicle stolen in the 11000 block of Road 20 after he let a woman borrow it and she didn’t return it right away. She avoided authorities and the vehicle’s owner for more than a day, and eventually left it in the City Market parking lot. The vehicle’s owner picked it up from there and did not pursue charges.

4:11 p.m. A man was arrested in the 26000 block of Road X after he was uncooperative with Forest Service officers and backup was called. When searching his car, they found what appeared to be a meth pipe and two marijuana pipes.

Saturday, March 22

1:24 p.m. A man with a DUI warrant out of Oklahoma was found unconscious in a field surrounded by Mike’s Hard Lemonade near the intersection of Road 24.25 and Road F. 4 in Cortez. Once he was cleared at the hospital, he was taken to jail.

2:09 p.m. A man was arrested and cited with DUI in the 13000 block of Road 29 in Dolores. He was in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, passed out beside an open container with the car running.

Sunday, March 23

7:28 p.m. A man with three warrants for failure to appear resisted arrest in the 39000 block of U.S. Highway 160 in Cortez. Authorities found him in the bushes and he refused to come out, stating he had a gun. He was tased and no gun was found on him; “he stated he wanted us to shoot him.”
