1:42 a.m. A man was cited with harassment after he allegedly kicked in his aunt’s door in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160 in Cortez. She said he chased her outside the house and believed he was going to hit her. He said he was just trying to retrieve his phone before leaving.
3:04 a.m. A vehicle ended up 100 yards west of the road after it left U.S. Highway 491 between mile markers 21 and 22 in Towaoc. The driver was unresponsive with an open can of beer and an empty bottle of Fireball beside him. A BIA officer broke the window to access him and he was taken to the hospital before going to jail.
7:51 a.m. A 16-year-old allegedly took the family car after his parents took his phone a week before. He crashed it into the gates at the Montezuma County Landfill, 26100 Road F, and left on foot. His father spoke with authorities and said he came home “very intoxicated.”
9:15 a.m. A woman allegedly took a license plate from her mother’s car that had not run for several years and put it on her own car. Her mother pressed theft charges, and a summons will be served.
7:24 a.m. A single vehicle crashed in Cortez, on the west side of Road 25 in the 6000 block. The Toyota Camry ended up against a fence down a steep embankment after the driver overcorrected to return to pavement from gravel. The driver was not injured, and her Camry sustained minor damage.
5:42 p.m. A woman allegedly assaulted her father with gold brass knuckles in the 33000 block of Road M in Mancos. She came over and was “starting shit” with his wife, so he asked her to leave. She hit him multiple times, and there was evidence of it on his face. She denied it, said she does not own brass knuckles and that her father assaulted her. She was cited with third-degree assault.
6:08 p.m. A man was cited with failures to provide insurance and observing traffic control when he drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Chestnut and Seventh streets in Cortez.
4:26 p.m. A woman was cited with DUI in the 28000 block of Colorado Highway 184 outside Dolores.
1:17 p.m. A man drove a go-kart into a field in an attempt to evade authorities in the 23000 block of Road 18 in Yellow Jacket. They eventually closed in on him and served his warrants for second-degree assault and driving with expired plates, without insurance on a revoked license with no seat belt. He was taken to jail.
2:11 p.m. A horse died in the 26000 block of Road P in Dolores. There was no foul play, and a neighbor reported it because she was unable to contact its owner. Another horse on the property had severely overgrown hooves and no water source. Cortez Fire Protection District filled troughs with 350 gallons of water, and the owner was cited with cruelty to animals.
11:51 a.m. Two inmates at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., got into an argument over a card game, and it broke out into a fight. The inmate who allegedly did the punching was cited with third-degree assault.
4:24 p.m. A man with a warrant turned himself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
7:03 p.m. A woman was out on a run in the 27000 block of Road R when a dog bit her calf and thighs. One of the bites broke skin. It was her neighbor’s dog, and she didn’t press charges as to not tarnish their relationship. Her neighbor offered to cover any medical bills and said the dog wouldn’t be left to roam again.
3:22 p.m. An individual was remanded at the Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., for contempt of court.
4:07 p.m. An individual was remanded into custody at the Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., for harassment and was taken to jail.
