Sheriff’s Blotter

Sunday, Dec. 28

10:13 a.m. A deputy responded to a local gas station regarding a person trespassing. The employee told the deputy the woman was told repeatedly to leave the store as she was being disruptive and had no money to purchase anything. The employee said the woman had been previously banned from the store and should not be there. The employee told the deputy the woman had just left as he arrived and gave the deputy a description of the vehicle she left in. As the deputy left the gas station he observed the vehicle described. The deputy contacted the woman, known to him from previous contacts. The woman told the deputy, “Are we really gonna do this?” The deputy told the woman she was under arrest for trespassing. The deputy ordered the woman to place her hands behind her back. She instead threw a cup of coffee at the deputy. The deputy had ahold of the woman’s left arm, which she attempted to pull free. The woman began flailing her right arm at the deputy. After resisting a while longer the deputy was able to handcuff the woman and place her in his patrol vehicle. A witness to her resisting arrest told the deputy she would complete a witness statement form. The deputy requested EMS to check the woman for injury due to her resisting. The deputy was told the woman had minor abrasions on her chin and a cut on her bottom lip. The woman said she had no other injuries and refused further medical treatment. Another witness statement was obtained from the gas station employee. The deputy arrested the woman for third-degree criminal trespass, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct

8:38 p.m. A deputy responded to a reported criminal mischief. The deputy contacted the reporting party by phone. The woman stated she and her family heard a loud explosion and saw a flash come from across the street. She said she ran to the front door and when she opened it she observed a mailbox laying in her neighbor’s driveway. The family did not witness anything that would help the deputy in identifying the person who had done this. The deputy examined the mailbox lying close to the county road. The mailbox was folded in half and had burn marks underneath. There was a burn mark inside of the mailbox suggesting the explosion had come from inside. The mailbox was approximately 10 feet from its normal location. The deputy contacted the victims who said it would cost $35 to replace the mailbox. They also did not know who would have done this. The deputy attempted to contact any witnesses but could not locate any.
