Wednesday, May 23

9:32 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of check fraud at the Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, 140 W. Main St., Cortez. Two women who reportedly submitted faulty registration payments paid their fees after being contacted by deputies. No charges were filed.

9:32 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

3:27 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 12000 block of U.S. Highway 491 on suspicion of violating a protection order after the protected party reported he had sent her an email.

Friday, May 25

4:04 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a water dispute in the 21000 block of County Road W. On Wednesday a woman had reportedly taken the spigots off a water pipe in order to prevent her neighbor, who shared her water rights, from using it. After receiving a verbal warning, she had reportedly opened a valve that allowed all the water to flow into a ditch on her property, again preventing the neighbor from using it. Deputies mediated between the two women until they agreed to allow one neighbor to use 100 percent of the water on even-numbered days, and the other to use it all on odd-numbered days.

Saturday, May 26

11:05 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a fire near the 15000 block of County Road 30. A property owner claimed he had seen the fire starting in his field while he was working on his tractor, but didn’t know what caused it. Dolores Fire Department personnel put out the fire, and said they had no reason to believe it was suspicious.

12:59 p.m.: A man was arrested at Arby’s, 504 S. Broadway, Cortez, on a Garfield County warrant for failure to comply.

Sunday, May 27

8:38 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 31000 block of County Road R on two warrants for failure to appear on misdemeanor charges after the property owners reported an abandoned truck on their land. While deputies were checking the truck to see if it was stolen, another truck drove onto the property. After contacting the occupants, deputies issued trespass notices to all three occupants at the property owners’ request. The man reportedly gave a false name at first, but eventually gave the name attached to the warrants.

Monday, May 28

11:30 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 27000 block of County Road T on suspicion of violating a protection order after she reported a disturbance. She was reportedly intoxicated in violation of her protection order.
