5:09 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle theft in the 15000 block of County Road BB. A man claimed his pickup, valued at $8,000, had gone missing while he was on a trip to Texas. The case remains under investigation.
6:38 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a missing pony in the 21000 block of County Road E. A man said his white Shetland pony had gone missing from his property the day before and he couldn’t find it. The case remains under investigation.
9:47 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 23000 block of County Road F.5 on suspicion of vehicular eluding, two counts of child abuse, five counts of reckless endangerment, reckless driving, careless driving, driving under restraint, driving an uninsured vehicle, displaying suspended license plates, failing to report an accident, speeding, failing to use a turn signal, obstructing a peace officer, second-degree criminal trespass, violation of bail bond conditions and other traffic violations. The man was pulled over in the 500 block of West Main Street after he reportedly sped while passing another vehicle. The suspect led the responding deputy on a high-speed chase down U.S. Highway 160 toward County Road G, where the pursuing deputy lost him. The suspect was arrested by Colorado State Patrol troopers about an hour later, after reportedly causing a hit-and-run accident with a vehicle on County Road F.5. There were reportedly Two children and three adult passengers were reportedly in the car during the chase. The suspect was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital with a possible broken pelvis, broken ribs and a broken arm.
Saturday, July 29
12:53 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft in the 5000 block of County Road 25. Two men said their vehicles had been broken into. Three pocket knives, a set of keys, a bottle of anti-freeze, a fishing pole, two dollars in change and a tackle box were missing from one vehicle. A one dollar bill was missing from the other. The case remains under investigation.
Sunday, July 30
1:19 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 27000 block of Colorado Highway 184 on suspicion of violating a protection order. A neighbor who had gotten a protection order against him claimed he had put up a sign in sight of her property that said “Wait for it” and he had been yelling at her in a threatening way.
7:33 p.m.: A man was arrested at J. Fargo’s, 1209 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating a protection order, resisting arrest and two counts of second-degree assault. He was arrested on suspicion of drinking alcohol, a violation of his protection order, after deputies reportedly saw him order beer at the restaurant. While they were arresting him, he reportedly started trying to punch the deputies, injured one of them on the mouth by head-butting him and put another in a headlock. The deputy reportedly escaped the headlock and used his stun gun on the suspect, after which deputies were able to handcuff him. The suspect was medically cleared by medics at the restaurant before being transported to jail.
9:16 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of suspicious persons at the Ute Mountain Casino, 3 Weeminuche Drive, Towaoc. Bureau of Indian Affairs agents had detained a male juvenile for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, but they contacted deputies after learning the juvenile and three family members who were with him were Mexican citizens who spoke mostly Spanish. Marijuana smoking paraphernalia and $1,580 in cash were found in a backpack belonging to the juvenile. The responding deputy reportedly found evidence that a man who was with the juvenile, identified as his mother’s boyfriend, could be involved with drug smuggling, and called in a K9 unit to check the family’s vehicle before handing the investigation back to the BIA agents. No illegal substances were found in the vehicle, but the man was given a verbal warning for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Monday, July 31
12:04 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a drug overdose in the 28000 block of County Road P.8. A woman was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital after family members claimed she had taken prescription pills that had belonged to her deceased father. The woman, who was conscious at the time, reportedly told the responding deputies she had tried to kill herself, and said she wanted help with her mental health.
1:16 a.m.: Deputies assisted Colorado State Patrol troopers with a DUI investigation in the 1800 block of U.S. Highway 160. They destroyed several bottles of alcohol found in a vehicle.
9:07 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
1:05 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of possible stolen mail in the 25000 block of County Road T.5. A woman claimed she and her husband had returned from a trip to find their mail scattered all over the ground around their mailbox. She said nothing was missing, but she was afraid someone may have written down her and her husband’s information written on the mail, and asked deputies to make a report on the incident in case it happened again.
6:01 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an injured deer in the 41000 block of County Road K.6. A man reported he had found a deer with a broken leg. The responding deputy killed the deer with his patrol rifle.
11:14 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of people stranded on McPhee Lake in the 28000 block of Forest Road 271. A man claimed his sister had texted him saying she, her husband and three children were on a boat on the lake, and the boat’s engine wouldn’t start. Deputies notified search and rescue personnel, who responded in their own boat. Just before they reached the family, the family’s boat reportedly started and they were able to dock it at the marina. No injuries were reported.
