Friday, April 20

8:40 p.m.: An inmate was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault on a peace officer, third-degree assault and harassment at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., after he reportedly punched an inmate in the face for laughing at him. While deputies escorted him away, he reportedly kicked one in the leg.

8:45 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of driving without proof of insurance in the 26000 block of County Road L after he was pulled over for driving without headlights after dark.

Saturday, April 21

9:53 a.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal mischief and harassment in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160 after deputies responded to a report he had shoved his girlfriend against a door and thrown multiple chairs at her, breaking a light. The man reportedly admitted to shoving her and throwing the chairs, and told deputies he needed help controlling his anger. They recommended he call Axis Health System.

6:14 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of reckless driving and speeding in the 18000 block of County Road G after he was pulled over for reportedly driving 68 mph in a 40 mph zone.

8:25 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of reckless driving and speeding in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 160 after he was pulled over for reportedly driving 73 mph in a 45 mph zone. He reportedly told a deputy that he was just trying to pass another vehicle. Three small children were in the backseat at the time.

Sunday, April 22

2:40 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 22000 block of County Road 31 on two Cortez Police Department warrants for failure to comply and theft after deputies conducted a welfare check on him and a person who appeared to be sleeping in a vehicle near the entrance to Boggy Draw Trail.

7:33 p.m.: Two women received citations in the 33000 block of U.S. Highway 160 after they were pulled over for speeding. When deputies smelled marijuana coming from their vehicle, they received permission to search it and found four open containers of marijuana, a large amount of cash and a pipe, in addition to three sealed containers of marijuana the two women showed them. The women reportedly said they had spent $400 on the marijuana at three stores in Montezuma County, and were transporting it to their home in Arizona. Both were cited on suspicion of an open container violation, and the driver was cited for speeding.

9:02 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160 on a Cortez Police Department misdemeanor warrant and on suspicion of violating minimum speed regulations and driving under restraint after she was pulled over for reportedly driving 35 mph in a 65 mph zone. Her driver’s license had reportedly been revoked for being a habitual traffic offender with 19 active cases.

Monday, April 23

6:52 p.m.: A female inmate was served with three warrants at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Tuesday, April 24

5:04 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of child abuse at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road. A woman claimed her daughter had been abused by her father while he had custody in Blanco, New Mexico. The juvenile was being treated for a bruise on both sides of her knee, but deputies were unable to determine what caused the bruising. They forwarded the case to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico.

Wednesday, April 25

9:27 a.m.: A male inmate was served with a warrant for a protection order violation at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

10:56 a.m.: A male inmate was served with a warrant for failure to comply at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

11:42 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to comply.

6:10 p.m.: A man was remanded into custody from Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.
