The organization Beyond the Call of Duty’s traveling memorial honoring slain Sgt. Michael Moran will visit the Cortez Police Department on Sunday.

The End of Watch: Ride to Remember tour is expected to be on exhibit from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the police station, 608 N. Park St.

Moran was killed during a traffic stop in November.

The tour started June 1 at the Everett Police Department in Washington state, and will cover 73 homes of fallen officers across the United States in 73 days. The police departments being visited are those that lost an officer in the line of duty in 2022 or 2023.

Cortez is the ninth stop on their tour, which ends Aug. 12 in Spokane Valley, Washington.

According to their website, Beyond the Call of Duty is a nonprofit that donates funds to families of fallen officers, as well as raising awareness by honoring fallen officers.

Their mission statement says, “Our purpose is to ensure that no officer is forgotten, that their families know their loved one has not been forgotten; and that there is recognition, support and understanding to help them heal. We also support department safety and training to help lower the number of fallen officers we see each year.”

Moran also will be honored at the 34th Annual Olathe Sweet Corn Festival in Olathe, Colorado, during their first annual Heroes 5k that will take at 9 a.m. on Aug. 24.

Entry into the 5k is $30, and that amount covers entry to the festival, T-shirt and racing bib.
