School of the West announces May workshops

The Mancos School of the West recently announced its May workshops.

Thursday, May 7

Learn to make a hand knoted Pearl Necklace from Carol van der Harten from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mancos Grange. Participants will make a hand knotted pearl necklace and will learn wire wrapping and crimp connections. Materials will be provided, tools may be borrowed, cost is $30 per person with a $40 materials fee. Visit www.schoolofthewest.org for information on enrolling in this class.

Friday, May 8

Plean Air Painting with Veryl Goodnight from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Veryl Goodnight Barn Sudio. Students will spend a day near Mancos painting. Goodnight will do a small demonstration in the morning and then ovesee the students as they do their own painting. Students should supply their own materials: outdoor easel, oil paints and panels required. The cost is $100 per person. Visit www.schoolofthewest.org for information on enrolling in this class.

Saturdays May 16 and 23

Representationa Sculpture: Mentoring from Clay to Bronze will be taught by Patsy Davis from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Saturdays. The class is two, full-day demonstrations one week apart. Day one will be building an armature, day two working with the clay. The objective is to provide participants with an overall understanding of the process and how to begin making their own sculpture. In addition, participants may schedule one-on-one, hour-long sesions with the instructor as needed to progress. Cost is $200 per person, plus a $75 materials fee. How to Silk Batik a Scarf will be taught by Dian Law from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at her home studio near Mancos. The class is a full-day workshop where students will learn all the steps in using silk batik techniques to dye a scarf. The cost is $60 a person with a $25 materials fee.
