Main Street’s Once Upon a Sandwich adds bar, expands seating area
Co-owner Rick Hessom sits at the new bar at Once Upon A Sandwich, on Main Street between Market and Chestnut streets.

Known for its sandwiches, soup and burgers, Once Upon a Sandwich has expanded its seating area and opened a full-service bar.

The seating area and bar features 18 new chairs, three new tables and is located in the space that was formerly occupied by Cortez Travel Services. Owner Rick Hessom said the bar will be open Wednesday through Sunday until 8 p.m. or 9 p.m.

“We’re going to see what customers want and go from there,” said Hessom. “We’ll definitely be open into the evening.”

In addition to offering a wide array of alcoholic beverages, the bar will serve chicken wings and items on Once Upon a Sandwich’s lunch menu. Three beers are on tap, and more local brews will be added soon.

“We’ll have margaritas and a whole gambit of beers,” said Hessom. “Our wings are really good. We have teriyaki, hot-style and a barbecue type.”

Denver Broncos games and other sporting events will be shown on a flat-screen television above the bar.

Hessom said that a second TV might be added.

“We had our soft opening last week, and we should be completely up and running soon,” Hessom said. “We’re hoping that the new area will provide customers with more room and more options.”
