San Juan National Forest to burn slash piles

Debris is from Taylor Mesa logging
The San Juan National Forest will use federal firefighters to manage pile burns in the Taylor Mesa area this week.

Depending on conditions, the San Juan National Forest Dolores Ranger District plans to burn slash piles generated from forest thinning and timber sales in the Taylor Mesa area November 7-9.

Taylor Mesa is 8 miles northeast of the confluence of the Dolores and West Dolores rivers. Firefighters will ignite and closely monitor pile-burning activities located near Forest Road 547 and Fox Den Creek. Smoke may be visible along Colorado Highway 145.
